Avallain and Accessibility

At Avallain, we believe in ensuring that everyone has access to engaging and impactful digital learning experiences that genuinely enhance outcomes. However, 15% of people globally have a disability that may affect them to make the most of the diverse digital products now available. This means that among 100,000 learners, 15,000 might face significant challenges in their learning journey.

Furthermore, accessibility extends benefits to a broader community, including those using small screens, individuals experiencing changes in ability due to ageing, or those with temporary impairments such as a broken arm or misplaced glasses. In reality, the number of people who benefit from enhanced accessibility is even larger than it first appears.

Accessibility regulations

Governments are moving rapidly to make sure that the rights of people with disabilities are properly protected. Two key examples are:

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Congress enacted the ADA in 1990 and since 1996, the Department of Justice has consistently taken the position that the ADA applies to web content. Its provisions have resulted in numerous actions and settlements involving educational institutions.

The European Accessibility Act (EAA)

The EAA is a landmark EU directive which requires everyday products and services – including websites and e-books – to be accessible to people with disabilities. As of 28 June 2025, complaints may be filed before national courts or authorities. The UK follows similar provisions.

The ADA and the EAA require compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards.

Our approach to accessibility

We are dedicated to a human-centred experience of technology and we understand how varied that experience may be. Our products, therefore, are accessibility-driven, designed so that the learning content and experiences they create meet the necessary standards and that, as far as possible, they support all learners, whoever they are and whatever their accessibility needs.
